Quick answer

If you want to check the screen, choose a long side of 1600 to 2000px, fix the aspect ratio and reduce it. If there are any characters, check them at 100% display after saving.

01

Capacity and pixels are different numbers

File capacity is the amount of data required to save, and pixels are the number of vertical and horizontal dots in the image. Even if the number of pixels is the same, the capacity will vary depending on the format and content.

When attaching an email, first decide whether the recipient will just view it on the screen, print it, or enlarge it. If it is for a screen, there may be no need to send the original several thousand pixels as is.

02

It is difficult to get lost when the long side is taken as the reference

For general screen checking, the long side is 1600 to 2000px. If small text or details are important, try higher values.

For landscape photos, the width is the long side, and for portrait photos, the height is the long side. If you fix the aspect ratio, when you input one, the other will change with the same ratio.

03

Use for shrinking rather than stretching

Enlarging a small image does not restore details that weren't there originally. Resize for email is suitable for reducing large original documents to the required size.

Check the required DPI and number of pixels for photos and certificates you plan to print, and avoid making them too small.

04

Compression is fine-tuned after resizing

Sometimes just shrinking the pixels can reduce the capacity enough. If the upper limit is still exceeded, adjusting the compression ratio will make it easier to understand the cause and effect.

Before sending, open the file and check that you can read the text, faces, product numbers, and other important parts. For multiple attachments, the total capacity is also calculated.

Image resizing

This article gives general guidance. If a recipient, printer or official service provides its own requirements, follow those requirements first.

A SMALL NOTE FROM SPACE

Even if you make the image small, don't make the message you want to convey smaller. The size that allows you to read the necessary information is just the right size.
